SOUL PONIES was founded in 2009 by Stacy Konkiel, an activist-/archivist-at-heart who aims to help preserve queer and riot grrrl culture. She may have been too young to experience either movement firsthand, but she nonetheless cut her teeth on the likes of Pansy Division, Sleater-Kinney, and Bratmobile and was deeply influenced by the ideas and aesthetics of both movements as a young teen.
In college, Stacy founded a queer music series which brought national queer (and ally) musicians to her small, conservative university. These acts included V for Vendetta, Hawnay Troof (f/ Baby Donut), Kickball, and Michelle Malone.
Currently, she lives and works in Bloomington, Indiana. Though she no longer updates SOUL PONIES, she remains committed to preserving access to the music and selected writings archived on the site.
